A game-day guide to Green and Uniontown

Three plates from the Town Tavern Green kitchen: chicken and waffles, a blackened-salmon power bowl, and a burger on a Town Tavern tray liner

Quick answer

The Town Tavern Green sits at 1840 Town Park Blvd in Uniontown and is open 11am to 2:30am on weekdays and 9am to 2:30am at weekends. Book through the Green Toast reservations page, phone (330) 896-4433 to confirm the game, or take it home on Uber Eats or Grubhub.

This is the long version, for choosing a room rather than confirming one. Hours, food, groups, delivery, and the single question you should never answer from a website.

The bar

Green is a township with a lot of houses and not many rooms that stay open past a reasonable hour. The Town Tavern sits at 1840 Town Park Blvd and does two things the area is short of: it is open seven days, and it is still going at two in the morning. On a game day those are not small details, they are the whole argument.

Availability first. Monday through Friday the doors open at 11am; Saturday and Sunday at 9am; every night ends at 2:30am. That covers an early morning international, a noon college kick-off, a four o'clock, a Sunday night game and the hour of arguing that follows it.

What this page deliberately will not do is promise a particular broadcast. Rights move around, packages change, and no static page is honest about them for long. The reliable move is a call to (330) 896-4433 before you set out: name the game, ask if it will be on, ask if the sound will be up. Thirty seconds of somebody's time and your afternoon is planned properly.

Where Green does make a real promise is the food, and it is a serious one for the category. This is not a room where the kitchen is an afterthought behind the taps. The same book that carries Jumbo Tavern Wings in more than a dozen house sauces carries an 8 oz filet with steak butter and grilled asparagus, a slow-roasted brined Amish half chicken, chargrilled fresh-caught walleye and a Maine lobster roll.

For a game, work the shareables and the handhelds. Game Time Nachos with grilled chicken, three cheeses, jalapeños, pico, cilantro and lime. Buffalo chicken dip with scallions and chips. Jonah crab claws, steamed, chilled and served with garlic aioli, if the table is feeling expansive. Truffle fries with roasted garlic and rosemary. A buffalo chicken grilled cheese on sourdough for the person who wants one thing they do not have to share.

Uniontown's other advantage is that you do not have to leave. Green is the Town Tavern room listed on Uber Eats and Grubhub, with its own Toast storefront alongside them, so the same wings and the same nachos can turn up at a living room three streets away. That is a genuinely different offer from what most rooms in the township can make.

One last thing worth knowing: there is a second Town Tavern, in Copley on Montrose W Ave, with the same hours and the same printed menu. If half your group is coming from the west side of Akron, that address may save everybody twenty minutes, and nobody eats worse for it.

Think about the group you are bringing, because that is what usually decides whether a room works on a game day. Four people who want wings, a pretzel and a long afternoon are well served. So is the pair who want the game on and a real dinner in front of them, because the entrées and the Fresh Catch board are on the same page as the nachos.

It is also a room that copes with a mixed group. Somebody who does not care about the game can eat a prosciutto and fig salad with charred figs, candied pecans and goat cheese, or build a power bowl, and have a perfectly good evening two feet from the person shouting at a screen.

How to order

Reserve through the Town Tavern Green page on Toast. Collect through the Green Toast storefront. Deliver through Uber Eats or Grubhub. Those are the four doors into the same kitchen, and all of them are specific to 1840 Town Park Blvd.

Then make the call, because it is the only one of these that can answer a question. (330) 896-4433 rings in the building and reaches somebody who can see the floor, the night and the table you are asking about.

One more piece of logistics: if your group is arriving in ones and twos across an hour, tell the floor when you book. A table that fills gradually is a different job from a table that lands at once, and the room would much rather know in advance.

When to come

For a noon start, arrive by half eleven on a weekday or lean on the 9am weekend opening and take your time. For an evening game, the room has been running all day and is at its best by then.

Nothing hurries you afterwards. A 2:30am close, seven nights a week, means the half hour after the final whistle is still yours rather than the cleaning crew's.

Weekend mornings are worth a separate thought. A 9am opening makes an early kick-off genuinely watchable in this township rather than theoretically watchable, and at that hour the room is quiet enough to hear the commentary rather than the crowd.
